3 Indians whose century in T20Is came in a losing cause

It is not that easy to score a century in the truncated version of the game. However, some batters have successfully braved the challenges against tough bowling teams and went on to touch the pinnacle of success.

Talking about Team India’s batters in T20Is, only a handful of batters have scored a century. Rohit Sharma (4), Suryakumar Yadav (3), Deepak Hooda (1), Virender Sehwag (1), Suresh Raina (1), KL Rahul (2) and Shubman Gill (1) have achieved the triple-digit figure.

However, some batters’ centuries in this format have come in a losing cause as well. In this article, we will take a look at the three Indians whose century in T20Is came in a losing cause.

1. Rohit Sharma vs South Africa, 2015

Rohit Sharma is the only batsman in the history of T20Is with four centuries. However, his first T20I century came in a losing cause against South Africa in Dharmsala. Rohit Sharma scored 106 off 66 balls including 12 fours and 5 sixes to his name.

His century helped India post 199/5 in 20 overs. However, South Africa chased down the target with two balls to spare and they won the game by seven wickets. Jean-Paul Duminy and AB de Villiers starred in the run-chase as the duo scored a fifty apiece.

2. KL Rahul vs West Indies, 2016

West Indies posted a humongous total of 245/6 in 20 overs. Evin Lewis brought up his maiden T20I century (100 off 48 balls) whereas Johnson Charles scored 79 off 33 balls.

KL Rahul registered his maiden T20I hundred in the run-chase in the United States of America. He scored an unbeaten 101 off 51 balls including 12 fours and five sixes. Unfortunately, Team India lost the game by 1 run.

3. Suryakumar Yadav vs England, 2022

Suryakumar Yadav brought up his maiden T20I century during the run-chase against England in Nottingham in 2022. However, his magnificent efforts went in vain as he ended up on the losing side.

England posted 215/7 in 20 overs. In response, India ended up with 198/7 and lost the game by 17 runs. Suryakumar scored 117 off 55 balls including 14 fours and 6 sixes.
