On Day 3 of the fourth Test against Australia, Shubman Gill continued to bat for a steady hundred, his second in the longest format of the game. Gill was promoted to open with Rohit Sharma in the third Test at Indore after the squad decided to remove KL Rahul due to his poor performance. Gill did not make the most of his opportunity in the third Test, but he came through in the clutch in Ahmedabad. With an assist from Cheteshwar Pujara, the youthful opening batsman struck just his second red-ball century.

After scoring his first Test century against Bangladesh, Gill saw KL Rahul take his starting spot in the subsequent games. Gill returned to form in Indore and then really showed it in Ahmedabad after Rahul had struggled in the first two matches against Australia.

Everyone in the Indian camp cheered when Gill hit the three-digit mark. The only face that could be made out was Virat Kohli’s. The ex-Indian captain cheered enthusiastically for Gill when he reached the landmark.

In spite of Gill’s century, India had a major setback when Cheteshwar Pujara went out LBW to Todd Murphy. With 63 overs remaining, India was 188 for 2 at Tea with Gill and Kohli at the crease.

After putting up 113 runs partnership Cheteshwar Pujara was dismissed when spinner Todd Murphy caught Pujara leg-before. In their first innings, Australia scored 480 runs.

Gill and India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, put up 74 runs before Sharma was caught lbw in the last delivery of the 21st over.
