Hakim Ziyech, an offensive midfielder for Chelsea, is a hot commodity for AC Milan during the next January transfer window
A rumour from Spanish publication Fichajes claims that AC Milan would make Hakim Ziyech a top priority during the next transfer window. After seeing little playing time with Chelsea, Ziyech is expected to be one of the club’s most popular departures this coming January.
Ziyech has made it through three different Chelsea managers unhurt, but since his highly publicized move to West London from Ajax in 2020, he has been unable to secure a regular starting position.
His focus hasn’t wavered, and his recent World Cup results speak much about his talent. Ziyech was the captain of Morocco in their third-place playoff match against Croatia, and he played a crucial role in the team’s incredible journey through the tournament.
The 29-year-old is still considered one of the most skilled players who can alter the course of the match single-handedly, and Milan has been hot on his trail for quite some time.
Ziyech is an excellent offensive midfielder who can also play on the right for the Rossoneri. If a deal is to be made, however, his compensation requirements may pose a problem.
The Moroccan international wants a contract worth more than €6 million per year, but the Italian giants are presently working on a tight budget and will not be able to provide the deal.
As Milan is also contemplating a move for AS Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo, who provides a similar service, it remains to be seen if the two sides can reach a deal.
As Graham Potter will have another opportunity to shuffle his current roster, it is expected that Chelsea will be one of the busiest clubs in the transfer market this January. Despite this, the management has already informed the player that his World Cup performance would not guarantee him a spot in the squad.
“We know his skills and like him as a player. As we saw in the World Cup, he plays between the lines with great skill. There are always good players at Chelsea who aren’t in the starting lineup and have to wait their turn. I was happy for him, and we kept in touch during the World Cup. Happy for him that he got to play, happy for him that he helped his team, he’s a good guy with talent,” said Potter.
