The AFC Champion League is an annual club of football competition and was organized by Asian Football Consideration. It was founded within the year 1967 as an Asian Champion Club tournament and was rebranded in 2002 as Asian Club Championship. In the 2002–03 year the season saw the Asian Club Championship, Asian Cup Winners Cup and Asian Super Cup combine to become the AFC Champions League (AFC).
The AFC Champions League 2021 is the 40th edition of Asia’s premier club football, a tournament organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), and the 19th under the current AFC Champions League title. This tournament was the primary to involve 40 teams during the group stage, however with a rise within the previous 32 teams.
In 2021, the group stage is going to be expanded from 32 to 40 teams, with both the West and East Regions having five groups of 4 teams. The slot allocation for the highest six member associations in each region will remain unchanged. The winners of the 2021 AFC Champions League also will get qualified for the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup in Japan, and if they’re from Japan, the runners-up also will qualify.
On 25th January 2021, the AFC published the schedule of the competition. And on 1st March 2021, the AFC announced the hosts for the group stage, apart from Group G whose hosts are going to be decided later. On 27th March 2021, the AFC announced that the West Asia Zone group matches are going to be rescheduled from 23–29 May to 21–27 May.
