REPORTS: Arsenal Wants To Sign The Benfica Star In The Transfer Window

According to reports, Arsenal has inquired about the possibility of signing Alex Grimaldo, a Spanish fullback who is now playing for Benfica and is 26 years old

Arsenal is reportedly interested in acquiring Alex Grimaldo, a left defender for Benfica who is 26 years old, according to the Portuguese publication Record, which was carried by Sport Witness. The Gunners are interested in the Spanish defender because they are looking to improve their left-back position and have thus made an inquiry about him.

Grimaldo, who excelled in the youth programs at Barcelona and Valencia, made the switch to Benfica in 2016 and has been playing for the Portuguese club ever since. It has been stated that his relationship with the club has been deteriorating lately, even though he has scored 19 goals and supplied 50 assists in 247 games for them.

Benfica has been considering releasing Grimaldo from his contract for free in the summer of 2022. He still has only one year left on it. However, several teams, notably Barcelona and Newcastle United, have shown an interest in signing the Spanish left-back. And Arsenal has now shown interest in pursuing the potential of signing the 26-year-old player during the summer transfer window.

According to the report, the Gunners have inquired about a possible transfer for the player in the summer with both Benfica and the player’s representatives. Arsenal considers the money to be “excessive” even though the Portuguese giants are demanding between €7 and €8 million for Grimaldo.

It has been reported that Benfica is prepared to let him go for free after the next season, which has the Gunners debating whether or not investing the cash would be a sensible option. However, Mikel Arteta wants to add more depth to the left-back department, and as a result, a transfer to Arsenal in the summer is not completely out of the question.

It is reported that Arteta and Grimaldo are both represented by the same agent, Wasserman, which might make it easier to reach a potential agreement with the Spanish defender, who is 26 years old. In addition, Arsenal acquired left-back Nuno Tavares from Benfica in a transaction of eight million euros last year. Tavares came to Arsenal from Benfica.

Kieran Tierney is another option for Arteta to consider at the left-back position. However, Tierney has been having fitness issues as of late. This may be why the North Londoners are eager to acquire another player in the position, as this would assist them with their obligations to the UEFA Europa League as well. Fabio Vieira, Matt Turner, and Marquinhos are the three players that the Gunners have brought in so far during this summer’s transfer window.
