“At GT no one will ever make you feel bad about it”, Rahul Tewatia reveals what he told Yash Dayal after Rinku Singh hit 5 sixes against him in the last over

"At GT no one will ever make you feel bad about it", Rahul Tewatia reveals what he told Yash Dayal after Rinku Singh hit 5 sixes against him in the last over

Rahul Tewatia is a seasoned pro when it comes to playing under the gun in the last over. Tewatia has the best best last-over finish percentage than anybody else in the previous three years. After being struck for five sixes in a row by Rinku Singh of the Kolkata Knight Riders in the last over of their IPL 2023 encounter, he was the finest person to approach Yash Dayal and console him. After all, in IPL 2020, Tewatia had dealt with an identical situation with Punjab Kings bowler Sheldon Cottrell.

Dayal, a bright spot in GT’s championship run last year, was devastated after being ripped apart by Rinku Singh in KKR‘s final-over chase for 29 runs. In GT’s next encounter against the Punjab Kings, Mohit Sharma took his position. The veteran Indian bowler was so effective on his comeback to the IPL that his 2 for 18 performance earned him the match’s MVP award. But Tewatia assured them that Dayal would make a powerful comeback.

What did Rahul Tewatia say to Yash Dayal?

After KKR’s loss, the left-hander who often wins in the final over revealed what he had told Dayal.

“He was one of our main bowlers. We became champion last season and he played a massive role in it. He bowled well with the new ball as well in the death last year,” Tewatia, who played a lap shot over fine-leg when 4 runs were needed off 2 balls, told reporters after GT won by 6 wickets.

“I told him, ‘One match has gone bad. If you want to go down then only you can hit rock bottom otherwise at GT no one will ever make you feel bad about it. Keep practising and execute what didn’t happen that day and wait for your chance. This is the worst, you can’t go any lower than this,” he said.
