“But now Hardik is T20I captain and Rohit is ODI captain” – Twitter reacts after Chetan Sharma said the selectors didn’t want two separate white-ball captains

Indian national cricket team are currently the best-ranked team across all formats of the game. The magnificent achievement was accomplished under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma.

As a result, he went on to become the first captain in the history of the sport to have guided the team to the No.1 spot across all three formats at the same time.

As things stand, the Indian cricket team management wants Rohit Sharma to focus only on ODIs and Tests, given that the ICC World Test Championship and the ICC ODI World Cup are scheduled to be held later this year.

Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya has been taking care of the T20I team. Earlier, Rohit Sharma led the team during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 tournament held in Australia but the Men in Blue were knocked out by England in the semis.

The selectors didn’t want two separate white-ball captains: Chetan Sharma

Chetan Sharma revealed the reason why the team management wanted to remove Virat Kohli from ODI captaincy. While speaking to Zee News, the chief selector of the Indian cricket team said that the selectors didn’t want two separate white-ball captains for India.

This is precisely the reason why Virat Kohli was not in the scheme of things as far as the captaincy was concerned. When Kohli stepped down as captain, Rohit Sharma took charge as the full-time captain.

Under his captaincy, Team India made it to the semis of the ICC T20 World Cup and were also knocked out in the Asia Cup 2022 tournament. Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team will be targeting the ICC World Test Championship followed by the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup later this year.

For the first time in history, the ODI World Cup is slated to be held in India. The marquee event will kick off in the October-November window and it remains to be seen how India will be approaching the tournament this time around.
