“Changing Captain in a World Cup Year, Peak Pakistani cricket” – Twitter reacts as Babar Azam is unlikely to remain all formats captain

Babar Azam is currently the captain of the Pakistan cricket team across all three formats of the game but it seems that he won’t remain as the all-format captain. Recently, Babar Azam was on the receiving end after he failed to bring the best out of his players in red-ball cricket.

Pakistan cricket also witnessed a downfall in the longest format as they failed to win even a single game in the last calendar year. Moreover, they also lost four Tests in a row (1 against Australia and 3 against England) for the first time in their backyard.

Besides that, Pakistan also suffered their first-ever whitewash in the Test series at home. Ben Stokes-led England cricket team inflicted a 3-0 whitewash on Babar Azam and Co in the last calendar year, which forced the board to make strict calls.

Pakistan Cricket Board sacked Ramiz Raja from the chairman’s post and also removed Muhammad Wasim-led selection panel, thus appointing Najam Sethi as the new chairman. It seems that some new changes will be taking place in Pakistan cricket under the new regime.

Babar Azam is unlikely to remain all-format captain

As reported by ESPNcricinfo, Babar Azam is unlikely to remain as an all-format captain and chances are high that he may even be sacked by the Pakistan Cricket Board. The board chaired by Najam Sethi is all set to take some bold decisions.

PCB is set to review and examine its team structures for all three formats. With Pakistan’s performance hasn’t been that impressive, Babar Azam could be stripped of the captaincy.

As reported by Cricket Pakistan, Shan Masood is a strong contender to replace Babar Azam as Test and ODI captain. It will be quite interesting to see what the future holds in store for Babar Azam. If he is stripped of the captaincy, it will give more time and freedom to him to focus on his batting.
