India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, has told his team’s batsmen to take a page out of Shreyas Iyer and Cheteshwar Pujara‘s book when it comes to batting on a pitch with a lot of turn, like the one in Indore. India’s batting performance was a major reason for the team’s 9-wicket loss in the third Test match. Australia won the match despite the fact that Rohit’s team scored 109 runs in their first innings before being bowled out for 163 in the second.

Rohit noted the team’s second-innings success because of the different batting styles of Cheteshwar Pujara and Shreyas Iyer. Iyer’s all-out onslaught upset the Australian spinners, while Pujara struck a balance between prudence and aggressiveness.

Pujara scored 59 runs off 142 balls in India’s second innings on day two, making him the team’s leading run-scorer. On Thursday, Nathan Lyon bagged an 8-fer, and not even the determined number three could prevent a collapse.

What did Rohit Sharma say?

“When you are playing on pitches like these you have to play the innings that Iyer played. Someone has to step out, someone has to take on the bowlers. It can’t be always that batters will get a big knock… you have to play cameos like that,” Rohit said in the post-match press conference.

The Indore wicket was another in the current 2023 Border Gavaskar Trophy to have produced a completion in fewer than three days, and the Indian skipper became enraged by the discussion of this phenomenon, claiming that Tests were concluding in less than five days in places other than just India.

The India captain had previously said that in the next Ahmedabad Test, India would try to recreate circumstances similar to those in the WTC final, but after this defeat, they are sure to modify their strategy.
