“Congrats Australia in equalling the BGT” – Twitter reacts as Steve Smith will once against captain Australia in the fourth test against India

During the deciding Test in Ahmedabad, Pat Cummins will not be joining the Australian team, thus Steven Smith will once again captain the side as they try to draw level in the Border-Gavaskar.

To be with his terminally sick mother Maria, whom he saw in palliative care after the second Test in Delhi, Cummins has decided to stay at home. After their nine-wicket success in the Indore Test, just their second Test victory in India since 2004, the team reached out to Cummins.

Although this is the fourth time since the new leadership system was implemented before the 2021-22 Ashes, Smith will be filling in for Cummins as captain once again in Ahmedabad. But, Smith has said that he is not interested in taking on the role permanently.

But he did say that he appreciated the difficulty of being captain in India, where he believes every action on the field matters.

Whether or not Cummins will actually play in the three-match ODI series that will follow the Tests is still up in the air. As his calendar is so full with international games, he decided to skip the IPL this year. In early June, Australia will face either India or Sri Lanka in the final of the World Test Championship, the first of six Tests that will take place in a span of two months that will also include five games in the Ashes series.
