When asked about Yuzvendra Chahal’s ability to remain in the Indian squad, Dinesh Karthik said that he has been fortunate in that he has had no one try to force him out of the team. The Indian team for the ICC Twenty20 World Cup in 2021 did not include Yuzvendra Chahal. Following that, he was brought back to play in the New Zealand series.
Indy’s white-ball squad has had Yuzvendra Chahal as a member for some years at this point. Every game he played resulted in him taking at least one or two wickets. Many people were taken aback by his exclusion from the Twenty20 World Cup.
That, however, is no longer the case nowadays. This has been shown by his figures from the current series against South Africa, which show a decline in his performance in recent years. In the three-match One-Day International series, he only managed to take two wickets.
Dinesh Karthik feels that Chahal now has his successors ready in the Indian Cricket Team
According to Dinesh Karthik, in a chat with Cricbuzz, “At this moment in time, if you had to choose a wrist-spinner outside of Chahal, you’d go with Rahul Chahar or Ravi Bishnoi. I believe Bishnoi is now in the lead based on the way things have played out so far. Chahal’s bowling performance, on the other hand, must be assessed. As his metrics show, this year has not been his most productive. The fact that no one is pressuring him to earn a spot in the team is, in many ways, fortunate for him.”
Dinesh Karthik speaks on the unavailability of local competition
In his opinion, the absence of domestic contests as a consequence of Covid has resulted in a dearth of alternatives for wrist spinners in the current market.
“The Indian fast bowlers are in plentiful, but the country lacks wrist spinners in significant numbers. And that will continue to be a problem due to a lack of domestic cricket because you need players who have taken a lot of wickets, particularly wrist spinners, and they haven’t played the longer format. Only 4-5 games of Vijay Hazare are played in a single season, and that is all that is available for you to pick from as an example,” Dinesh Karthik said.
In domestic games, Covid-19 has caused a slew of problems. As Karthik put it, “While many international cricketers are looking forward to a holiday, the local cricketers are looking forward to playing right now.”
