“Everyone must be thinking why I call Dada as Dadi”, Sachin Tendulkar revealed why he calls Sourav Ganguly as ‘Dadi’ instead of ‘Dada’

Indian batsmen Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly remain the most productive opening combination in One-Day International history. With the support of 21-century and 23-half-century partnerships, they combined to score 6609 runs for the team at an average of 49.32. No one is likely to ever be able to equal or surpass such achievement.

During Ganguly’s career, Tendulkar’s name was often mentioned. They were the backbone of the Indian cricket squad and close friends off the field as well. Tendulkar believed Ganguly would become an excellent vice-captain, so he put forth his name.

While MS Dhoni was the team’s captain when they won the World Cup in 2011, several of the players on the 2011 squad reportedly owe their early success to support from Ganguly. Ganguly’s old go-to’s included the likes of Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, etc.

This year, on his 50th birthday, Sourav Ganguly received birthday greetings from people all across the globe. Ganguly was a close friend of Tendulkar’s, therefore the latter also posted a video on his social media in order to extend best wishes. Tendulkar explained why he calls Ganguly “Dadi” instead than “Dada,” a more common nickname.

Why Sachin Tendulkar calls Sourav Ganguly as Dadi?

Tendulkar claimed in the video that he had only ever called Ganguly by that name since they first met at a camp in Indore when they were both 13 years old.

“Sab yahi soch rahe honge ki ye Dada to Dadi kyu bulata hai [Everyone must be thinking why I call Dada as Dadi]. But just to clarify, we were only 13 years old when we met at a camp in Indore. We spent a month together. I call him Dadi from that time,” said Tendulkar in a video posted on his Twitter.

A number of anecdotes regarding each other’s lives have been sent back and forth between Ganguly and Tendulkar. Ganguly once said that Tendulkar’s sleepwalking scared him.
