"Finally the curse has been broken", Twitter reacts as Venkatesh Iyer becomes the first KKR batsman after Brendon McCullum to score an IPL century

Over the years, Suryakumar Yadav’s Mumbai Indians have enjoyed dominance over Nitish Rana’s Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium. However, this time around, both teams find themselves in a bit of turmoil as they have been plagued by multiple injury issues and are trying to make their mark in the tournament with all of the resources at their disposal. Rohit Sharma, captain of the Mumbai Indians, was sidelined with an illness and replaced by Suryakumar Yadav as captain for this game. The Wankhede Stadium is hosting the game.

Even though Arjun Tendulkar, son of Sachin, is making his MI debut in this game, it is Venkatesh Iyer who has created an impression and caught Suryakumar Yadav’s team off guard at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. After KKR’s opening batsman, Jagadeesan went out for a duck, KKR’s all-rounder came out and hammered the Mumbai Indians’ bowlers across the field.

In addition to Rinku Singh’s heroics, it was Venkatesh Iyers’ knock that helped KKR outwit and outplay Hardik Pandya’s side against Gujarat Titans. Iyer has been in fine form so far this season. Iyer scored a goal in this game.

Iyer initially came to prominence after he led KKR to the IPL championship game in 2021. KKR’s case was closed in the 14th season of the IPL, but when the second half of the season began, the franchise chose to give Venkatesh Iyer more playing time, and the decision paid off. The batsman from MP made his KKR debut in 2021 and has since appeared in 27 games for the team. This season, Venkatesh Iyer has played a new role for the Kolkata Knight Riders as their number three batsman.
