"Had he been there, he wouldn't have spared Lyon and Kuhnemann" - Former Pakistani player feels that India should have consulted Rishabh Pant about playing spin

Danish Kaneria, a former Pakistan leg-spinner, thinks current Indian batsmen may take a page out of wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant’s book when it comes to facing spinners at home. The loss of the southpaw is devastating for the home team because of the damage he incurred in a terrible vehicle accident.

Kaneria thinks the batters may have benefited from a conversation with Pant about how he keeps the spinners off balance by varying his own line and length. He believes that Pant would not have allowed Nathan Lyon and Matthew Kuhnemann to bully the opponents into submission had he been there.

What did Danish Kaneria say about Rishabh Pant?

Danish Kaneria compared Rishabh Pant’s approach against spinners with those of the other batters in a video posted on his YouTube channel.

As he put it: “If you would ask Rishabh Pant how to bat against these spinners, he would tell you to use your feet, get to the pitch of the ball, and smash the ball a long way. Had he been there, he wouldn’t have spared Lyon and Kuhnemann. He would have forced them to change their lengths by attacking them. Indian batters have been disappointing.”

Dane Kaneria thinks the home team missed a golden chance to win the game by batting out Australia in their first innings. Instead, they were bowled out for 109, giving Australia a great opportunity to win the game.

With Australia’s advantage down to 88 runs, the home team will need to play effectively in the fourth innings to give their bowlers something to work with.
