'He was too accustomed to Germany'- Sergio Aguero shares his view on the below par performance of Erling Haaland against Liverpool

Erling Haaland, who was just signed by Manchester City and spent the previous two and a half years playing for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga, may need some time to adjust to the Premier League, according to Manchester City icon Sergio Aguero.

On July 30, Haaland made his first competitive appearance for his new club, City, in a 3-1 loss to the Reds in the Community Shield. Haaland had previously played for Borussia Dortmund before making the move to City for a fee of £51 million. However, the 22-year-old failed to impress in his debut performance after missing two easy chances.

What did Sergio Aguero say about Erling Haaland?

The solid Reds defense, which was marshaled by center-back Virgil van Dijk, was successful in silencing the Norwegian on Saturday afternoon, despite the fact that he had scored a staggering 85 goals in 88 outings for BVB. Aguero voiced his opinion on the matter by broadcasting it on his Twitch account (as reported by The Mirror). He said:

“He was too accustomed to Germany, Haaland assumed he was alone, then Van Dijk appeared and said, ‘Welcome to the Premier League.”

The player who has won the Premier League a record five times also shared his thoughts on Chelsea’s decision to sign forward Raheem Sterling permanently and added:

“There are moments when they [Manchester City] make bizarre choices, and the sale of Sterling is one of those occasions.”

Aguero resumed his discussion of the new player acquisition, Julian Alvarez, who was acquired earlier this summer from River Plate for a transfer fee of £14.1 million.

“Julian sent me a message to find out how life is in Manchester, and when I replied to him, I informed him that it was going to be extremely chilly!”

To this point, Manchester City has signed Haaland, Alvarez, and holding midfielder Kalvin Phillips from Leeds United for a combined total of 42 million pounds. Additionally, they have acquired Stefan Ortega, a goalkeeper who was formerly playing for Arminia Bielefeld, via a free transfer.

On August 7, 2022–2023, the team managed by Pep Guardiola is slated to kick off their season in the Premier League by traveling to West Ham United.
