“He would have gotten out on those two deliveries even in T20s” – Dinesh Karthik reckons it is important to back Suryakumar Yadav in ODIs

Suryakumar Yadav is the best batsman as far as the truncated version of the game is concerned. The flamboyant batter is known for his reputation for playing flashy drives and sensational sixes with relative ease.

Time and again, he has made his batting look so easy by executing his shots all around the park. Ever since he made his T20I debut, the star cricketer has bagged more man-of-the-match awards in T20Is than any other player in this format.

Suryakumar Yadav, who is the No.1 ranked batter in the T20I rankings, scored 1675 runs in 48 T20Is at an average of 46.5 including three centuries and 13 half-centuries to his name at a sensational strike rate of 175.8.

Dinesh Karthik reckons it is important to back Suryakumar Yadav in ODIs

While Suryakumar Yadav has got a tremendous record in T20Is, the same hasn’t been said about his performances in the One-Day Internationals. Having played 22 ODIs so far, he could score only 433 runs at an average of 25.47.

He has scored two fifties to his name and registered his personal best score of 64. Since Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of Australia ODIs due to injury, Suryakumar Yadav played at No.4 in the first two ODIs against Australia.

Unfortunately, things didn’t go in favour of the right-handed batter as he played across the line in two games. As a result, he ended up getting dismissed for a golden duck in the Mumbai and Visakhapatnam ODIs respectively.

Meanwhile, Dinesh Karthik explained why it is important to back Suryakumar Yadav in ODIs. The veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batsman reckons that Suryakumar would have gotten out on those 2 deliveries even in the T20 format.

Karthik further added that it is not because it is ODIs, he is getting dismissed. He also added that it is due to the high-quality bowling by the Aussies regardless of the format. The wicketkeeper also added that the team management must fit Suryakumar in a different batting position to get the best out of him.
