How much does Manchester United earn from sponsors?

by Samrat Chakraborty / Thursday, 04 May 2023 / Published in

Premier League giants Manchester United continued the redemption process as a top English club in the 2022-23 season under their new head coach Erik Ten Hag. In the process, the Dutch manager and a new-look side helped the club win the EFL Cup. It was notably their first silverware addition to the much-decorated trophy cabinet since 2016-17, with the club within range to make it a double at the FA Cup final in June and finish in the top-four spot in the Premier League to book a ticket to Champions League.

Although the ongoing season has been progressive for the club following uncertain finishes in the past seasons, their legacy has not deterred the chances of bringing some high-value sponsorship. Manchester United is set to finish as the second-highest-grossing club in terms of club sponsorship revenue, with a total of £192.5m. Interestingly, the sponsorship revenue generated by the 20-time champions is only £65.5m less than their traditional rivals and to be three-peat Premier League champions Manchester City.

Manchester United has sponsorship agreements with 43 brands in the 2022-23 season. Statistically, their top five partners account for 73% of the sponsorship revenue generated in the soon-to-be-concluded season.

The club’s all-kit sponsor, Adidas, brings in an annual value of $128.44m, while their principal partners TeamViewer have a yearly deal of $65.55m. Meanwhile, their official blockchain and training kit partner Tezos reportedly bring in a value in excess of £20 million per season. Interestingly, the partnership was formulated to introduce Web3 technology to the club’s supporters. Additionally, their official digital transformation and shirt sleeve partner DXC Technology has signed a multi-year contract, bringing an annual value of £20.

The list of Global Partners for Manchester United in the 2022-23 season includes:

Adidas  CANON MEDICAL SYSTEMS
TeamViewer  CASILLERO DEL DIABLO
TEZOS CHEVROLET
DXC TECHNOLOGY CHIVAS
APOLLO TYRES DHL
BETFRED DOO GROUP
CADBURY ECOLAB
KOHLER PAUL SMITH
KONAMI REMINGTON
MARRIOTT BONVOY RENEWABLE ENERGY GROUP
MAUI JIM SNAPDRAGON
MELITTA THERABODY
MLILY VISIT MALTA

In the 2021-22 season, Manchester United recorded an annual revenue of £564.39, which was a slight increase from the previous year. But the co-chairmen, Joel and Avram Glazer, hope to increase their revenue strength with a new owner that can invest in bettering the stadium, training facilities, developing the youth, and signing new players.
