How much is MS Dhoni earning from endorsements?

Former India captain MS Dhoni is a once-in-a-generation cricketer. His tactical abilities and knack for guiding his players from behind the stumps made him a successful captain for the national team and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The wicketkeeper-batter led Team India to the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, the 2011 Cricket World Cup, and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, becoming the only captain in the world to win all the major ICC trophies. He additionally led the national team to the 2010 and 2016 Asia Cup triumphs and made CSK one of the most consistent franchises in the IPL, winning four titles.

The long list of his achievements increased his brand value and saw him endorsing over 50 brands globally. In 2023, three years after his international retirement, Dhoni is valued by global brands as much as some of the premier active players across sports. He shares his name with the likes of former India captain Virat Kohli, current captain Rohit Sharma, the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, Tokyo 2020 gold medalist Neeraj Chopra, and two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu as the most endorsed Indian sports personality.

As per industry estimate, Dhoni charges INR 3 crore to 6.5 crore per year for an endorsement, generating an annual revenue of INR 150 crore. Most recently, he inked a deal with JioCinema, the official digital live-streaming partner of IPL 2023, as their brand ambassador. This year, the manufacturer of polymer pipes and fittings, Skipper Pipes, also roped in Dhoni as their brand ambassador, along with T20 legend Chris Gayle. He is also a part of the ‘Mutual Fund Sahi Hain’ ad campaign along with Tendulkar after being roped in by the industry body Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI).

Interestingly, the most successful captain in CSK history signed five lucrative endorsement contracts in a span of four weeks ahead of the IPL 2022. This saw him tie up with WINZO, Housing, OREO, Kinley, TurtleMint (Insurance Platform), and Ganesh. The deals saw his endorsement value increase from INR 128 crore to INR 133 crore annually in 2022.
