“I believe that Hardik will follow in Warner’s footsteps” – When Sunil Gavaskar said that Hardik pandya will succeed in all the three formats

"I believe that Hardik will follow in Warner’s footsteps" - When Sunil Gavaskar said that Hardik pandya will succeed in all the three formats

Although India all-rounder Hardik Pandya is now focused only on white-ball cricket, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar likened him to Australia batter David Warner upon seeing Padya’s Test debut and predicted that Pandya will be successful in all three versions of the game.

Pandya, for those unaware, debuted in the Test series when India was touring Sri Lanka in 2017. After making 50 on debut at the Galle International Stadium, Pandya slammed 108 (96) at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, earning praise from then-captain Virat Kohli as the tour’s brightest bright spot.

Pandya has had several ailments, and he just recently returned to bowling at the previous IPL. His return to the Test team is improbable at this time, but he has become an integral component of the white-ball sides.

Pandya’s status skyrocketed after a strong start to his Test career, and he received accolades from all corners of the cricketing community. Gavaskar, one of the best players in Indian cricket history, has compared Hardik Pandya to David Warner, saying that both players can succeed in all three forms.

What did Sunil Gavaskar say about Hardik Pandya?

Even though Pandya would not be compared to Warner with the bat, his ability to help out with the ball made him a game-changer. He bolstered his reputation by claiming five wickets in an upcoming match against England in Nottingham.

“It’s still early days but Pandya has proven that he has it in himself to succeed in Test cricket,” Gavaskar had said to NDTV.

“He is a bit like David Warner. I believe that Hardik will follow in Warner’s footsteps and become a successful player in all three formats of the game,” he added.

Even MSK Prasad, the chairman of selectors at the time, was impressed by Pandya’s one and only Test century. Prasad was so impressed by Pandya that he said that he will become India’s next Kapil Dev.

“If he stays grounded, I am sure we will see him being compared to the legendary Kapil Dev in the times to come,” Prasad had told PTI.
