Royal Challengers Bangalore qualified for the playoffs in the last edition of the Indian Premier League by finishing fourth in the IPL 2022 points table. Under the captaincy of Faf du Plessis, RCB did pretty well as a team.

They also went a step further by knocking Lucknow Super Giants out of the competition in the Eliminator clash. However, RCB succumbed to a defeat at the hands of Rajasthan Royals in the second qualifier, which was also the end of the road for RCB.

However, Faf du Plessis and Co will be looking forward to doing well in the sixteenth edition of the IPL. They have all the tools and ingredients at their disposal and are capable of pulling off something magical next season.

RCB to pay rich tribute to AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle

AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle’s contribution to Royal Challengers Bangalore has never been in doubt. Both the superstars have let their willows do the talking and weave the magic when it mattered the most.

They were best known for their ability to score runs at a rate of knots. According to a source from TOI, the jersey numbers, namely 17 and 333 are set to be retired as a mark of honour to AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle for their services at RCB.

AB de Villiers has played a total of 184 games in the Indian Premier League. The former RCB batting great scored 5162 runs at a spectacular batting average of 39.7 including three centuries and 40 half-centuries.

It is worth mentioning that AB de Villiers has smacked a total of 251 sixes to his name On the other side of the coin, Chris Gayle scored 4965 runs in the cash-rich IPL.

The Universe Boss maintained a superb batting average of 39.7 and has smashed a record six centuries to his name in the league. Besides that, he has hit 31 fifties. Gayle has hit 357 sixes in the IPL.

Gayle ??? If they really wanted to do that , they would have bought Gayle back in 2018 ! They humiliated him enough now they are doing drama here!

We can understand doing it for ABD. But, Gayle?

Gayle was released by RCB after telling him they would bid for him in the auction which they didn't. Gayle went unsold twice and PBKS bought him on the third attempt.

So it's 100% certain that RCB will retire 18 of Virat after his retirement. But smriti has 18 so will they do this or not gonna be interesting to see.
