“If you don’t perform, someone else will take your position” – Gautam Gambhir opens up on KL Rahul’s struggles

KL Rahul

India’s star batsman KL Rahul has been going through a tough phase of his cricketing career. The right-handed batter has often failed to stick to his basics as he is getting dismissed for paltry scores in international cricket of late.

Recently, questions were raised about his place in the starting XI owing to his string of poor scores. Earlier, he led the team in Rohit Sharma’s absence for the dead rubber against the Tigers. He also led the team for the Test series wherein India came out on top much to Bangladesh’s annoyance.

With Ishan Kishan starting to make waves in limited-overs cricket and with Hardik Pandya being named as the vice-captain of the Indian ODI set-up, chances are high that KL Rahul might even be dropped from the playing XI if he fails to make his opportunity count.

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer, Gautam Gambhir has made an honest remark about KL Rahul’s struggles over the last few weeks. KL Rahul failed to maintain calmness and composure, which has been a massive setback for him of late.

Lucknow Super Giants’ mentor Gautam Gambhir who has worked with KL Rahul in the Indian Premier League said that KL Rahul would need plenty of runs to his name in order to retain his place in the starting XI.

It is absolutely vital for KL Rahul to start performing in the ODI series against Sri Lanka and with ICC ODI World Cup scheduled to be held in India in 2023, India will be banking on his abilities in the main event.

KL Rahul has played 48 ODIs for India wherein he scored 1760 runs at an average of 44 and a strike rate of 87.9 including five centuries and eleven half-centuries to his name. The star batsman registered his personal best score of 112.
