IND vs WI: The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) has taken into consideration the current Covid-19 scenario in the country and has announced the One-Day International (ODI) series against the West Indies would be played without any spectators. The Eden Garden in Kolkata will have a capacity of 75% for the Twenty20 Internationals, which would be a big boost for the supporters who have always been enthusiastic about the game.
The West Indies team will go to India for a three-match One-Day International series beginning on February 6th, which will be followed by a three-match Twenty20 International series.
For the first time in his career, Rohit Sharma will take the reins as India’s full-time captain in an ODI series, while Virat Kohli will bat as a pure batter for the first time in a long time. After a disappointing tour of South Africa, KL Rahul has been appointed as Rohit’s deputy, and this series is likely to give a chance for a large number of rookies.
India lost the One-Day International (ODI) series 0-3 and the Test series 1-2 in South Africa, and this IND vs WI home series would be critical in preparing the team for the next International Cricket Council (ICC) events.
IND vs WI: The Gujarat Cricket Association speaks out on India’s remarkable achievement
It was recently announced on Twitter by the Gujarat Cricket Association’s official handle that the three 50-over matches in the IND vs WI series would begin behind closed doors. The association also expressed delight at the fact that India would be playing its 1000th One-Day International on the ground. Having played 958 ODIs, Australia is the team that is second closest to India’s record of 999 ODI games, and this will be a watershed point in the country’s cricket growth.
“Considering the current situation, all the matches will be played behind the closed doors,” the official handle of Gujarat Cricket Association tweeted.
“We are all set to host West Indies Tour of India ODI Series 2022. 1st ODI on the 6th of Feb will be a very special and historic match as India will be playing its 1000th ODI. The Indian team will be the first cricket team in the world to achieve this feat,” it added
