IPL 2023: T20 Records and Stats at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi

The Arun Jaitely Stadium in Delhi is the home to Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals. The capital franchise is playing under the captaincy of former Australia vice-captain David Warner in IPL 2023 as Rishabh Pant continues to undergo recovery after his freak accident. The IPL 2020 runners-up have won 43 matches at home while losing 49. 

Delhi Capitals have made a start to forget in the ongoing season, losing their first five matches on the trot. Incidentally, the Warner-led side lost their home matches by six wickets against Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians, respectively. However, the franchise will look to bounce back in their remaining home games against Kolkata Knight Riders (April 20), Sunrisers Hyderabad (April 29), Royal Challengers Bangalore (May 6), Punjab Kings (May 9), and Chennai Super Kings (May 20).

History of Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi

Previously known as the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, it was renamed Arun Jaitley Stadium on August 29 to pay homage to the late Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) and Finance Minister. Jaitely has gained credit for the stadium’s development, with modern facilities and increased seating capacity. Initially, the stadium was established in 1883 and named after the nearby Kotla Fort. It is India’s second oldest functioning stadium after the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. 

The stadium has stands named after Bishan Singh Bedi, Mohinder Amarnath, Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli. The name of the home dressing room is attributed to Raman Lamba, while that of the away dressing room is Prakash Bhandari. It holds a seating capacity of 41,842 spectators. 

T20 Records and Stats at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi

 The pitch of the stadium has undergone several criticisms over the years. It was deemed dangerous in 2009 during an ODI match between India and Sri Lanka. Due to the unfit conditions, the stadium was banned from hosting matches by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for 12 months. However, the pitch has remained batting-friendly, and big totals can be chased at this venue.
