IPL 2023: T20 Records and Stats at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad

The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is the home to defending champions Gujarat Titans. After getting to an inch-perfect start in their maiden appearance in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Ahmedabad-based franchise has registered a decent outing in IPL 2023. The Hardik Pandya-led side is currently fourth in the IPL 2023 points table with four wins and two losses from their six outings.

Gujarat Titans began their title defence with a five-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings in the inaugural match at home. Later, Gujarat Titans lost their home fixtures against Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals. The Titans will look to better their record at home in the next matches against Mumbai Indians (April 25), Delhi Capitals (May 02), Lucknow Super Giants (May 07), and SunRisers Hyderabad (May 15). The stadium will also host Qualifier 2 on May 26, while Gujarat Titans will have a chance to defend their title at home in the final on May 28.

History of Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad 

Formerly known as the Motera Stadium, the Narendra Modi Stadium is the largest in the world. Owned by the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA), it has a seating capacity of 132,00. It was constructed in 1983 and renovated in 2006. The stadium was later closed in 2015 and demolished before being rebuilt completely in February 2020. As per reports, the estimated cost of rebuilding the stadium was INR 800 crore. The GCA renamed Narendra Modi Stadium on February 2021 in association with the current Indian Prime Minister and former state board president.

The stadium has hosted matches from the 1987, 1996 and 2011 World Cups. It is a regular venue for international matches. The IPL 2022 final at the stadium registered a record crowd of 101,566, a Guinness Book of World Records. The stadium hosted its first pink-ball Test in 2021 between India and England.

Traditionally, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad offers a slow wicket. It was a bowler-friendly track, but the pitch has slowed over the years, making it ideal for the spinner.
