“Ishant Sharma becomes only the 2nd bowler to defend a total against GT in last over” – Twitter reacts after Delhi Capitals stun Gujarat Titans in a low-scoring thriller

Delhi Capitals’ lanky paceman Ishant Sharma made the headlines for all the right reasons. The fast bowler used all the experience to better effect and successfully applied tactics when it mattered the most.

When 33 runs were required off the last two overs, the game was still in favour of Gujarat Titans, considering the fact that Rahul Tewatia and Hardik Pandya were at the crease.

Anrich Nortje who conceded only 3 runs in the first three deliveries of the penultimate over, was hammered for three straight sixes by Rahul Tewatia. The left-handed batsman displayed exceptional power-hitting skills in the fag end of the overs and provided the much-needed spark in the run-chase for the defending champions.

Gujarat Titans required 12 runs off the last over. With Hardik Pandya and Rahul Tewatia at the crease, it felt like they were the favourites to win the game. However, Delhi Capitals pulled off the ropes from the jaws of defeat, courtesy of a world-class spell by Ishant Sharma.

Delhi Capitals defend the target against Gujarat Titans

Ishant Sharma conceded just six runs in the last over as Gujarat Titans fell short of the target. Delhi Capitals won the game by five runs as they notched up their third win of this season. Delhi Capitals must have gained a great deal of confidence from this win over Gujarat Titans.

Hardik Pandya top-scored with 59 off 33 balls (7 fours) but he failed to steer the team over the finishing line. Rahul Tewatia looked good for his 20 off 7 balls including three sixes. Earlier, Delhi Capitals posted 130/8 in 20 overs. In reply, GT ended up at 125/6 in 20 overs and lost the game by five runs.
