Australia’s current assistant coach, Daniel Vettori, has talked about the heated debate regarding the quality of the Indian pitches being used in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023.

Throughout the four-match Test series between India and Australia, there has been a lot of discussion about the Indian pitches. When the third Test was over, discussions picked up speed since the Indore pitch had been the subject of much criticism.

An ex-all-rounder has said that there was no real problem with the Indian surfaces. After the Indore Test, there has been a significant increase in the level of background noise around the pitches. He felt the media is exaggerating the whole thing for dramatic effect.

What did Daniel Vettori say about the Indian test pitches?

“I don’t mind the surfaces because I feel it’s the same for everyone. It doesn’t feel like the toss is the key ingredient. You almost know what to expect,” the 44-year-old said as quoted by India Today.

Vettori continued by saying that a Test cricketer should always be ready for the pitch conditions. For a cricketer who has practised and is confident in their abilities, there is no need to worry. It’s important to take pitches in stride, even if they’re difficult since doing so will force you to improve as a player.

“You turn up and you can see that it’s going to be this type of wicket and you can prepare for it. I think that allows some skill to come into it, some perseverance and some fortitude around the things that you have to do. The batting group, hearing them talk, has started to bind to that as well. A score of 30 could be a great day. It’s how you get that 30 that makes such a difference. The challenge is in accepting it more than anything. That’s easier said than done. That’s the main challenge on these surfaces. The expectation is so high that you’re going to do well and you are going to take a wicket every ball,” he added.
