“It’s a good wake-up call”, Wasim Jaffer fires warning to Rohit Sharma and company

Wasim Jaffer has urged the Indian Test Team to pull up their socks when they face the Aussies in the crucial final test in Ahmedabad. The former Indian opener thinks that the defeat in the third test at Indore should serve as a ‘Wake-up call’ for the Indians who needed a win to seal the spot in the final of the 2nd edition of ICC Test Championship.

The defeat has led the team to a situation where they must win the final test to play the final. He though, sounded positive of India coming back strongly when he spoke on ESPN Cricinfo’s Timeout. He said, “I think India will make a better comeback. It’s a good wake-up call. They must improve on their batting, especially the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Shubman Gill as they are due for runs. The top five should help the Indian bowlers with runs. If they score 300-400 runs, their bowlers become a lot better. Virat Kohli is due for runs big-time and I expect him to return to his old form and hopefully, India wins the Test match.”

Here is Wasim Jaffer’s assessment about the Indian team sounded like:

With his views, he has tried to highlight the lacklustre performance of India’s celebrated batters, particularly Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma who have failed to live up to their reputation in this series. Kohli’s struggles against spinners have been too conspicuous with him being Aussie spinner Todd Murphy’s bunny in this series.

Jaffer expressed his surprise at the way India used Axar Patel as a batsman in the last match as he felt that Axar batted too down the order. “I was surprised and disappointed as Axar Patel’s contribution was critical to India’s win in Delhi. Axar Patel has looked the most comfortable of all Indian batters and he was also unbeaten in the previous Test. He batted at number nine in the second innings and ran out of partners. Hence, India messed up tactically as they sent KS Bharat and Ashwin ahead of Axar,” Jaffer added.
