Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023: A rising talent in Australian cricket, Todd Murphy, thinks it’s quite an accomplishment to dismiss Virat Kohli three times in the first three Tests of the current series in India. The 22-year-old believes that this test would make him stronger and more prepared for the next Indian trip.

With seven wickets in his maiden game in Nagpur, Murphy has shown to be a major upgrade. The off-spinner has been instrumental in the dismissal of star batsman Virat Kohli in all three matches. These include a first-ever stumping of the right-hander in a Test match during the second Test in Delhi.

Murphy told the media in advance of the last Test in Ahmedabad that bowling to Kohli for the first time was the toughest part of the match.

What did Todd Murphy say about dismissing Virat Kohli three times in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023?

As quoted by Perth Now, the Victorian said: “It’s been awesome, when I look back to Nagpur when Kohli walked out to bat I was sort of at the top of my mark thinking ‘this is as good as it gets’ getting to bowl to a guy like that. To be able to have that for the first three Tests has been awesome, a really enjoyable battle and no different to bowling to a lot of their guys when they stand there it is daunting at times.”

He added: “It is always nice when plans come off, Nagpur wasn’t an ideal dismissal but you take what you can get so to have a couple of times the last few games has been really nice and validation that what we are thinking works.”

It’s doubtful that Murphy will be included in the World Test Championship (WTC) final in June against India or Sri Lanka, despite his impressive play in India. If Nathan Lyon isn’t available, the 22-year-old is a strong backup option.

Murphy has said that the whole Test series in India has been bizarre since the team had no idea what to anticipate even in their own country.

After their thrilling nine-wicket victory in Indore, Australia will be eager to even the series. If they succeed, it would be the first time they’ve accomplished this feat in India since 2004.
