“It’s time we should consider Shami as a red ball specialist” – Twitter reacts after Gautam Gambhir reveals why Arshdeep Singh should replace Mohammed Shami in the final ODI against Sri Lanka

Team India got off to an incredible start to the ODI series by beating Sri Lanka by 67 runs in the first ODI in Guwahati. Virat Kohli who scored 113 runs in the game was adjudged the player of the match for his terrific innings.

Talking about the second ODI, Team India continued with the same winning template as they beat Sri Lanka by four wickets at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The Men in Blue clinched the series by 2-0, with one more game to go.

Earlier, Team India won the T20I series by 2-1 against Sri Lanka. The third and final ODI between Team India and Sri Lanka will be played on January 15, Sunday at Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala).

Arshdeep Singh should replace Mohammed Shami in the final ODI: Gambhir

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer, Gautam Gambhir reckons Arshdeep Singh should replace experienced pacer, Mohammed Shami in the third and final ODI against Sri Lanka. According to Gambhir, it is absolutely imperative for the team management to rest Shami since India already won the series.

Gambhir echoed that Mohammed Shami has to bowl tough overs in the Border Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia. He urged the team management to give the right-arm fast bowler some rest to recharge his batteries for the four-match Test series.

Mohammed Shami has played 60 Tests for India wherein he has taken as many as 216 wickets to his name at an average of 27.4 including eleven four-wicket-hauls and 6 five-wicket hauls.

Australia’s tour of India comprises four Tests followed by three ODIs. It is important for India to give it all in the contest such that they qualify for the second cycle of the ICC World Test Championship.

During the first cycle of the WTC, India made it to the finals under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. However, they surrendered at the hands of the Kane Williamson-led New Zealand cricket team.

Maybe unpopular opinion but GG should really be a part of the coaching setup in the future. Many may disagree with his opinions but he certainly has the intelligence required to coach the national side.

I expect only 2 changes:

1. Arshdeep in place of Shami
2. Sundar in place of Axar

Both replacements to be made keeping in mind workload management since there are a few key series coming up + it will give match time to other players.

Kuldeep should surely continue in 3rd ODI.
