Real Madrid has shown an interest in acquiring Edin Dzeko from Inter Milan during this summer’s transfer window. Valencia and Juventus are also keeping tabs on the veteran striker’s availability
Edin Dzeko, a veteran striker currently playing for Inter Milan, is said to be the subject of interest from Real Madrid, Juventus, and Valencia during the upcoming summer transfer window, as reported by Italian broadcasters Sport Mediaset (h/t Inter Live). Dzeko is rumored to be considering a move away from Inter Milan.
Dzeko joined Inter Milan from their Serie A rivals AS Roma just a year ago, during the summer. He was brought in to serve as a substitute for Romelu Lukaku, who had previously played for the Nerazzurri but had moved on to play for Chelsea. The experienced center striker, who is 36 years old, demonstrated his value to Simone Inzaghi’s team by finishing the season with 17 goals and 10 assists from 49 appearances across all competitions. In all, he played in all of the season’s games.
Dzeko’s position in the team, however, is in jeopardy as a result of the fact that Inter Milan has made it quite obvious that they want to attempt to buy Lukaku and Paulo Dybala this summer. The Italian giants are indeed considering releasing the Bosnian striker, a development that seems to have piqued the interest of several teams, including Real Madrid.
Karim Benzema is the top pick for the No. 9 position for the team that currently has both the Spanish and European championships. However, there is a serious paucity of quality players available to provide a backup for the French international player. Luka Jovic and Mariano Diaz are two players who, when given opportunities, have failed to live up to expectations and are expected to leave the team this summer.
Although Real Madrid may depend upon academy graduates Borja Mayoral and Juanmi Latasa, it would be a smart move for them to acquire another experienced striker up top to cover for Benzema as they go about defending their domestic and European crowns. Edin Dzeko seems to be the player that Carlo Ancelotti’s team has their sights set on acquiring for this reason.
Will Real Madrid make the move?
Although the 36-year-old may not be a spring bird anymore, he has shown that he is still capable of being a consistent goal scorer during the previous campaign. The striker who once played for Manchester City has a contract that will run out in the summer of 2023, which means that he is unlikely to command a high transfer price. As a result, Real Madrid may pursue him with little to no risk.
However, according to the source, Real Madrid will have to compete with Juventus for the services of veteran attacker Edin Dzeko, who is reportedly of interest to Juventus as a potential backup for Dusan Vlahovic. In addition, Real Madrid’s La Liga rivals Valencia have also entered the bidding for Dzeko, and their new manager, Gennaro Gattuso, is eager to collaborate with the Bosnian superstar.
It will be fascinating to watch what decision Real Madrid makes this summer on whether they will continue their chase of Dzeko or if they will rely on the skills of Mayoral and Latasa to provide support for Karim Benzema.
