23-year-old French forward, Kylian Mbappe, is arguably the world’s most wanted football player. It seems like his current employers, Paris Saint- Germain, are willing to do everything within their power to keep him in Paris after French outlet, Le Parisien, broke the news on May 5, 2022, that Mbappe had agreed in principle to a two-year extension with the option of an extra year that could keep him at the club till 2025. The report mentioned that he’s also been offered a salary that will make him the highest paid footballer on the planet.
Following the news, Mbappe’s mother, Fayza Lamari, denied the report when speaking to Spanish publication, MARCA.
Kylian Mbappe contract offer from PSG
According to Le Parisien, Mbappe will earn a salary of €50m net per year and he’ll also receive a signing bonus of €100m net if he agrees to this mega contract. According to the same report, the PSG ownership believes it’s a matter of time before this will be announced.
Mbappe signed for PSG in the 2017 summer transfer window on a season-loan long with an option to make the deal permanent for €180m. This option was exercised by PSG in the following season. The deal will expire after this season, which has made Mbappe’s next move a subject of interest within the football world since last season.
PSG also acquired the services of Brazilian superstar Neymar in the 2017 summer transfer window for a world record fee of €222m. The transfers of Neymar and Mbappe had a seismic impact on the football industry.
Questions around financial fair play were debated and discussed, as was the power bestowed on players in the modern game. For PSG, the moves haven’t been unqualified successes. The French club has dominated their domestic league for the last decade but are yet to win a Champions League title, something that has been openly shared by the club’s most important stakeholders as their ultimate ambition. Neymar and Mbappe have not got any closer to winning the prestigious Ballon d’Or either.
Despite all of that, Mbappe’s stocks have grown exponentially over the years. This was especially the case after being one of the stars of France’s World Cup winning squad in 2018. This season, he has registered 24 goals and 16 assists in Ligue 1, and six goals and four assists in the Champions League.
His greatest admirers are the team that knocked him out of this season’s Champions League in a dramatic round of 16 tie.
Will Kylian Mbappe join Real Madrid?
Real Madrid have been in the market for the best players in the world for decades now. There is no doubt that Mbappe has all the makings of a Galactico. After the report from Le Parisien, Mbappe’s mother revealed that Real Madrid remain Mbappe’s preference.
This was her statement:
“It is completely false that Kylian has renewed. Talks around Kylian’s future are proceeding in an atmosphere of great serenity to enable him to make the right choice, respecting all parties. Real Madrid are still the first option for Mbappé.”
Madrid have seen first-hand just how special Mbappe is. The Frenchman scored in both legs of their round of 16 tie in the Champions League from this season, which gave PSG an aggregate lead of 2-0 before Mbappe’s international teammate, Karim Benzema, scored a hat-trick in 17 minutes to turn the tie and lead Los Blancos through.
Real Madrid are no pushovers. They are one of the few clubs that can match Kylian Mbappe’s sporting and financial ambitions but the salary on offer from PSG is such that even the mighty Real Madrid might not be capable of matching it.
