"Lockdown kids need to see this. Mr. IPL Suresh Raina" - Twitter reacts as Suresh Raina is the only cricketer to score 400+ runs in a single IPL season on nine occasions

Suresh Raina has been one of the important players in Chennai Super Kings’ history. The veteran cricketer announced his retirement from international cricket in late August 15, 2020. In the IPL auction 2021, CSK acquired the services of Raina for Rs 11.00 crore.

In fact, his last IPL match appearance came against Rajasthan at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. He ended up scoring 3 runs and little did he know that it was his last appearance in the IPL itself.

During the IPL 2022 mega-auction in Bengaluru, eyebrows were raised after CSK’s leading run-scorer went unsold. Popularly known as “Mr IPL”, Suresh Raina failed to attract the bidders at the highly-anticipated auction.

The cricket fraternity was literally taken aback after Suresh Raina went unsold at the auction. As a result, he made up his mind to quit IPL too. He was last seen in action during the League Legends Cricket 2023.

The veteran cricketer represented India Maharajas in the domestic T20 tournament. However, he was unable to bring the best out of himself in the competition since he went past his prime. However, it was good to see him playing some vintage shots.

Meanwhile, when Suresh Raina was in his prime, he was literally unstoppable as he was better than any other player in the history of the Indian Premier League. The fact that he was consistently scoring runs for CSK made him the top player in the IPL.

Rightly so, he earned the name “Mr IPL”. He is also the leading run-scorer for CSK in the IPL. Notably, he is the only cricketer to score 400+ runs in a single season that too on nine occasions, which goes to show his incredible consistency level.

Earlier, he was on top of the list in terms of the most runs scored in the IPL. After Raina went past his prime, other players such as Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, David Warner and Rohit Sharma went past his overall runs tally. Suresh Raina scored 5528 runs including one century and 39 fifties to his name at a strike rate of 136.73.
