"Mumbai Indians will be glad that they've Jofra back" - Twitter reacts as Jhye Richardson ruled out of the IPL 2023

Injuries to Jhye Richardson’s hamstring have dealt a major blow to the Mumbai Indians‘ preparations for the upcoming IPL 2023 T20 competition. The Australian pacer wrote an emotional update on March 11 after undergoing surgery, expressing his disappointment in having to miss out due to injury but his eagerness to see what the future holds. The injury to Richardson follows that of Jasprit Bumrah and is disappointing for the Mumbai Indians as they seek a record sixth IPL championship.

Richardson was expected to miss just a few games with his injury, but it took two months before he could return to action; now, following another surgery, he will be out for at least another month.

Neither the Marsh Cup nor the Sheffield Shield has seen him play since he sat out the Perth Scorchers’ BBL title run. However, he was included in Australia’s 16-man ODI team for the next three-match series against India, which will begin on March 17 in Mumbai.

Nathan Ellis, a veteran of three One-Day Internationals, has replaced Richardson. On Saturday in Perth, Richardson returned to competitive cricket with a 50-over match for his side Fremantle against Wanneroo. It was intended that he will play in the Marsh Cup final before departing for India.

It has been reported that the Mumbai Indians have not yet announced replacements for Richardson and Bumrah. There are many potential replacements for Richardson outside of India, but not nearly as many potential replacements for Bumrah in terms of pace bowlers.
