Number Of Wickets Ravichandran Ashwin And Ravindra Jadeja took playing together in Test matches

Veteran English pacers James Anderson and Stuart Broad picked up a combined 1,000 wickets in Test matches during the just-finished first Test between New Zealand and England at Mount Maunganui, joining Australia’s Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne as the only bowling pairs to accomplish this feat.

It was only in New Zealand that Anderson and Broad, both right-arm bowlers, first bowled with each other in a Test (five years after Anderson’s debut and a few months after Broad’s). Anderson and Broad, who have played with one other for over 15 years, have taken a combined 1,002 wickets in only 133 Tests.

India and Australia’s second Test match in Delhi, which just ended, provided another example of Ashwin and Jadeja’s dominance as a bowling pair. Neither of the two Indian pacers were able to take a wicket in the second innings as the two veterans picked up three and seven wickets, respectively, to bowl out the opposition for 113 in 31.1 overs.

Together, Ashwin and Jadeja have removed 462 batsmen in 45 Tests since they first played a Test together a little over a decade ago (13 months after Ashwin’s debut and in Jadeja’s debut match).

If they keep up this pace, they won’t even need to play as many matches as the guys named above to make up ground in the aforementioned standings.

“Massive help is an understatement. He’s been in phenomenal form. The way he’s batted, the way he’s bowled and we don’t have to talk about how well he moves in the field. He’s been a fantastic cricketer. I’m so thankful for the fact that I’ve got a partner like him to be bowling alongside me,” Ashwin had said of Jadeja whilst speaking to host broadcaster Star Sports Network after the conclusion of the first Test in Nagpur.
