“Poor Nortje. First cricketer to be hit by the spider cam?” – Spider-cam knocks down Anrich Nortje on Day 2 of the Boxing Day Test

Anrich Nortije

The Boxing Day Test between the Australian cricket team and the South African cricket team is currently being played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and the hosts are in the driver’s seat at the end of Day 2.

Pat Cummins and Co are in a commanding position after their performances with the ball and bat. Earlier, they restricted South Africa to 189 in the first innings with the help of Cameron Green’s stupendous bowling performance.

Green brought the best out of himself as he bagged his first-ever five-wicket-haul in Test cricket. Marco Jansen top-scored with 59 runs for the visitors in the first innings. In response, Australia lost Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne for cheap scores.

However, the hosts found a great deal of support in the form of David Warner and Steve Smith as the duo added 239 runs for the third wicket before Anrich Nortje got the better of Steve Smith for 85 runs.

Spider-cam knocks down Anrich Nortje on Day 2 of the Boxing Day Test

In what was a bizarre incident in the history of cricket, a spider-cam went on to knock down Proteas’ paceman Anrich Nortje on the second day of the Boxing Day Test and the video clip of the same has been doing the rounds on the internet.

The spider cam inadvertently crashed into the South African fast bowler, leaving him flat on the turf. The incident took place right after the end of the 47th over when Anrich Nortje was only moving to take his position on the field.

As it turned out, he never knew that the spider cam was heading towards him in the first place. Nortje got accidentally hit by the spider cam and after which, he lost his balance before he fell on the ground. Perhaps, he was the first cricketer to be hit by the spider cam.

Meanwhile, Australia ended the day with 386/3 as David Warner scored his third double-century.
