Ravichandran Ashwin scripts yet another record in his name during the fourth test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023

The Indian bowler with the most wickets versus Australia in a Test match is now Ravichandran Ashwin, who has eclipsed Anil Kumble.

In the current match against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ashwin has taken six wickets. The off-spinner surpassed Anil Kumble on the all-time record after getting rid of Todd Murphy for his sixth wicket in the first innings on Friday (March 10).

After 111 wickets versus Australia, Kumble called it quits. Before the Test in Ahmedabad, Ashwin had taken 107 wickets. Ashwin has surpassed Kumble with 113 wickets after taking six in the first innings.

In addition, Ravichandran Ashwin has tied Nathan Lyon for the most wickets taken in Border-Gavaskar Trophy matches. There are 113 wickets to Lyon’s credit as well. Australia has only begun bowling in the Ahmedabad Test match against India, thus he has a good chance of quickly overtaking Ashwin.

In this current series between India and Australia, the surface at Ahmedabad has likely been the best for batting. Australia batted for 167.2 overs in their first innings, scoring 480 runs. The tourists’ century-scorers were Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green.

Most Indian bowlers had trouble getting rid of the Australians, but Ravichandran Ashwin came back with six wickets. The off-spinner took out Travis Head, Cameron Green, Alex Carey, Mitchell Starc, Todd Murphy, and Nathan Lyon.

After 10 overs, India was 36 without loss on Day 1. The home team taking the lead in the first inning would be a nice confidence boost.
