Fabrizio Romano said that Chelsea’s interest in Serge Gnabry might be for nothing because the winger is talking with Bayern Munich about extending his contract.
The Blues were reportedly interested in the German international for the right wing after Raphinha turned them down, even though they had agreed on a fee with Leeds United.
The 25-year-old player’s desire to play for Barcelona made it possible for the Catalan team to finish the deal when they had the money.
But the club could have found a better player than the Brazilian. Gnabry’s ability to score goals regularly would have been a great asset for the Blues.
The winger, who turned 27 today, has been linked to a move by Thomas Tuchel in particular.
Gnabry may turn down the offer from Chelsea
Romano has said, however, that even if Chelsea wanted to sign him, they might not be able to do so because his current team wants to keep him.
He wrote on Twitter: “Despite Chelsea’s approach this week, Serge Gnabry is still giving priority to Bayern’s new contract proposal. He’s attracted by the last contract bid and talks are progressing. Chelsea is really interested but now Gnabry is discussing with the FC Bayern board.”
Even though Gnabry would be a good addition to the team after Raheem Sterling, the top priority at Stamford Bridge is to strengthen the defense, which is very thin right now.
The club is almost ready to announce that they have signed Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli. His experience seems like a great thing for young defenders at the club to learn from, especially during the preseason tour of the United States.
Also, there have been strong rumors that the club will sign Nathan Ake from Manchester City. This would bring him back to the club he left in 2017.
The Dutchman seems like the perfect addition to the team for Tuchel’s desired left-center-back position since he can play on the left side of defense.
