“Richly deserves all the accolades” – Twitter praises Shreyas Iyer for performance in second test against Bangladesh

One of the stars of India’s triumph against Bangladesh in the second test was Shreyas Iyer. Iyer had an impact with the bat in both innings. He hit 87 runs in the first innings — his 159-run partnership with Rishan Pant made sure India put on a respectable score of 314. He followed that up in the second innings by hitting 29 runs in a match-winning 71-run partnership with Ravichandran Ashwin.

Iyer had to hold his nerve in both innings following the top order’s collapse and has elevated his status following this test match. The 28-year-old has come under scrutiny for his perceived weaknesses against shorter balls throughout his career but has ended the year on a high. He has now put on consistent displays in all three formats of the game, with his T20 game improving over time as well.

Many fans showed their support for the Mumbai-based batsman on Twitter. They also highlighted some of the setbacks that he’s overcome in recent times.
