Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni will face each other today in RCB’s clash against CSK. This is the first time the two teams meet since both celebrated captains relinquished their roles. Kohli announced his plan to step down in October, not long after giving up his Test and limited-overs captaincy. MS Dhoni handed over skipper duties to Ravindra Jadeja two days before the start of IPL 2022.
Faf du Plessis, former CSK star was appointed to lead RCB and the team has flourished under the man who captained South Africa across formats for over four years. But Ravindra Jadeja, though he has been an important member of the national squad for over 14 years, has never captained a side before. He’s struggling to adapt the role, despite remaining under the mentorship of Dhoni, and the team seems to be following in the same vein. RCB have three wins from four games under Faf, but CSK are still searching for an elusive victory.
But all the attention has been on the two former India captains before the start of this game. Kohli was at RCB’s helm since 2013, Dhoni has led CSK since the IPL began back in 2008. The two have become inseparable ambassadors of their respective franchises over the years. Fans took a trip down nostalgia lane as Dhoni and Kohli reunited before the game.
