Shubman Gill, a youthful opener for the Gujarat Titans (GT), performed heroics in the second qualifying round of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) against the Mumbai Indians. To help GT record a massive 233 runs in 20 overs, the 23-year-old smashed 129 off 60 deliveries, including seven fours and 10 sixes, the highest by a batsman in the IPL playoffs. He has already scored three centuries in the prestigious league this year.
During the pursuit, both Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma played crucial roles for MI. Tilak slammed 43 runs off 14 deliveries, while Suryakumar blasted 61 runs in 38 balls. MI was unable to win despite their best efforts, as they were held to 171 runs in 18.2 overs. Mohit Sharma was also very important for GT, as he took five wickets while allowing just 10 runs in 2.2 overs.

They specifically mentioned one hit-off Kartikeya and noted that it was after that moment that Shubman Gill recognized their ability to get into position and effortlessly execute pick-up shots.

Mr. IPL continued by saying how much he admired his body language while batting and how much he believed in himself. The 36-year-old went on to say that Gill would play just as well as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Mahendra Singh Dhoni in India’s biggest games.
He expressed admiration for Gill’s body language, self-confidence, and self-belief, pointing out their consistent performance in significant matches. He drew a comparison to Virat Kohli, citing the example of Jos Buttler from the previous year. However, he highlighted the outstanding performance witnessed that night and confidently stated that in important games, Gill would deliver just like Virat, Rohit, and MS Dhoni have done in the past.
In the 16th edition’s final, GT will play CSK, who has won the IPL four times. Both the first match and the first qualifier for this season featured Gujarat and Chennai. In the first game of IPL 2023, the defending champions beat CSK by five wickets, while in Qualifier 1, the MS Dhoni-led team beat GT by 15 runs to earn a spot in the championship game.
