“That’s the lamest excuse I have ever heard” – Twitter reacts after Chetan Sharma reveals Virat Kohli lied about Sourav Ganguly asking him to reconsider T20I captaincy decision

Chetan Sharma who is currently the chief selector of Team India has been in the headlines of late for exposing the untold secrets that took place in Indian cricket. The chief selector has planned to reveal the activities that happened behind the scenes.

Meanwhile, in the latest statement, he claimed that Virat Kohli had actually lied about Sourav Ganguly asking him to reconsider the T20I captaincy call. Besides that, the chairman of the senior selection committee echoed that there was no heated battle between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the first place.

Chetan Sharma further added that former India captain Virat Kohli attempted to defame the former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly because he reckoned that Ganguly was mainly responsible for him losing his ODI captaincy.

Virat Kohli lied about Sourav Ganguly asking him to reconsider T20I captaincy decision: Chetan Sharma

On September 2021, India’s run-scoring machine made up his mind to resign as T20 skipper post the T20 World Cup which was held in Dubai. Kohli made the call after the BCCI removed Kohli from the ODI captaincy post back in December 2021.

It seems that the members of the board decided that there needs to be only one limited-overs captain and which is why they appointed Rohit Sharma as the white-ball skipper.

Meanwhile, the then BCCI President Sourav Ganguly clearly stated Virat Kohli to not resign as T20 captain since two-white ball leaders were not welcomed anyways in Indian cricket.

Nonetheless, it was Virat Kohli who denied Ganguly and made up his mind to relinquish the T20I captaincy. In fact, Kohli’s decision to quit the T20I captaincy was labelled progressive by the board.

Virat Kohli failed to execute his plans with the bat in the first Test against Australia in Nagpur. He will be looking forward to showcasing his mettle in the second Test against Australia at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on February 17.
