“The ref has killed this game” – Twitter reacts to refereeing in Arsenal vs Newcastle United match

Arsenal and Newcastle United played out a tense 0-0 draw in midweek. The two sides are currently sitting in the top three of the Premier League table, and there was a lot of pre-match hype before the game. The game didn’t have too many big moments, but there was a lot of drama after the game. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta labelled the refereeing in the game as ‘scandalous.’

There was a 50/50 call when Arsenal defender Gabriel looked like he’d been unfairly challenged by Dan Burn on a corner. The Arsenal players appealed, but despite their best efforts, Referee Andrew Madley was unmoved. The Arsenal fans were apoplectic and took their anger out on Twitter.

Despite the draw, the Gunners are still on top, with eight points separating them from Manchester City. City have a game in hand, but this is still a pretty comfortable lead.
