The Australian national cricket team led by Pat Cummins have been playing a fearless brand of cricket in the longest format of the game. As a result, they were able to relish results time and time again. Currently, they are involved in the Test series against South Africa.

Pat Cummins and Co won the first two Tests of the three-match Test series. They won the series by 2-0 and are looking forward to inflicting a 3-0 whitewash on South Africa. It remains to be seen whether or not they will win the third and final Test to complete a whitewash.

The victory over Proteas in the dead rubber is so crucial for the Aussies going forward into the ICC World Test Championship final. It is due to the fact that they will lock horns with Team India in the upcoming four-match Test series.

Australia becomes the No.1 Test team at the end of the year since 2016

Australia are very much certain that the Test series against Team India won’t be that easy. As far as India are concerned, they will have to win the Test series against the Aussies by 4-0, 3-0 or 3-1 in order to qualify for the WTC final.

It is going to be a very tough battle for both teams. Earlier, India inflicted a 2-0 whitewash on the Tigers which helped them gain points in the second cycle of the ICC World Test Championship. Moreover, with South Africa dropping points, it pushed Team India to the second spot.

Meanwhile, the Australian cricket team became the number one ranked Test team at the end of the year ever since 2016. For the record, the Indian national cricket team have been at the top spot for six straight years, i.e. from 2016 to 2021.

As far as the first Test cycle is concerned, Team India qualified for the WTC final alongside New Zealand. However, Team India lost to New Zealand in the final as the Kiwis won the game by six wickets to win the first cycle of the WTC.
