"There should be a minimum fitness for cricket players in Indian team" - Twitter reacts after Sunil Gavaskar said Sarfaraz Khan is fit to play cricket

The Indian selection committee has set certain benchmarks with regard to fitness such that the players who represent the team extend their dominance in the longer run. The players who clear the fitness tests are the ones who will be taken into consideration for the international assignments.

Recently, Mumbai cricketer Sarfaraz Khan felt upset after he was not selected for the two-match Test series against the Bangladesh cricket team. Sarfaraz Khan also recalled that he was promised that he would be selected for Bangladesh Tests after he scored a century in Ranji Trophy final.

As it turned out, the selection committee didn’t even consider him in the first place. Recently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India named the Test squad for the first two Tests against Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy series.

Sarfaraz Khan was once again overlooked by the Indian selectors. The 25-year-old even said that he cleared the fitness test and the fans see no reason why he cannot be included in the Test squad.

Sunil Gavaskar takes a dig at the Indian selectors

Meanwhile, the former Indian cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar launched a scathing attack on the selection panel for constantly ignoring the ever-so-talented cricketer Sarfaraz Khan despite the fact that the 25-year-old has been chipping in with performances time and time again in the domestic circuit.

The Mumbai-born cricketer boasts a very good record as far as first-class cricket is concerned. Having played 37 games, he scored 3505 runs at an average of 79.65 including 13 centuries and 9 half-centuries to his name.

Sunil Gavaskar, while speaking to India Today mentioned that Sarfaraz Khan is fit enough to play cricket. The Indian batting great further added that if the selection panel wants to pick only slim guys, then they should probably go to a fashion show and select models. The commentator didn’t shy away from making this bold statement as he went on to add stating that selection should be based on runs and not size.
