“These little words off the field also add spice to PSL that’s the beauty of PSL” – Wasim Akram encourages the heated battle between Babar Azam and Mohammad Amir

"These little words off the field also add spice to PSL that's the beauty of PSL" - Wasim Akram encourages the heated battle between Babar Azam and Mohammad Amir

In the current season of the Pakistan Super League, the fierce rivalry between star pacer Mohammad Amir and Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam has been the topic of many conversations (PSL). When Amir dismissed Babar Azam for zero in their second game of the season, the media took notice of his aggressive celebration.

The prolific pacer also said, “Bowling to right-handed batsmen is like bowling to tailenders for me,” in an interview before the event. This has caused much debate since some people think it was meant to be a secret communication to Babar. Wasim Akram, a former captain of Pakistan’s cricket team, has said that he appreciates this competition and defended the right of pacers to show some passion during games.

What did Wasim Akram say about the Babar Azam and Mohammad Amir altercation?

“I think we have too much time on our hands. You need characters, you need a bit of rivalry and I am all for it. I am all for Amir, the way he has been saying stuff as a bowler,” said Akram while speaking to Arab News.

During a match between Peshawar and Karachi a few weeks ago, Mohammad Amir tossed the ball in frustration after being struck for a boundary by Babar Azam. Since then, there has been mounting tension between these two players.

Wasim, president of the Karachi team, has said that situations like this are necessary to keep fans interested. He also urged people to take it easy on the criticism and just watch it for fun.

“What’s the point of going into the PSL game, or any game, and shaking hands with the batter and hugging them? Okay, before the game or after the game, I am all for it but during the game, be professional and these little words off the field also add spice to PSL that’s the beauty of PSL. We should enjoy it instead of criticising individually and consistently,” the 56-year-old said.
