“This is worse than the infamous 36 all out by India. Atleast we gave them a target at that time”, Twitter reacts as ndia beat Australia by innings & 132 runs in the first Test

Here in Nagpur, Australia has been annihilated, being bowled out in only one session as India’s spinners have made the surface seem dangerous. Yesterday, you probably thought Axar Patel was being cheeky when he predicted that India’s batting team would benefit from the surface but that India’s bowlers would get some assistance. But look at the results for yourself. Against a hapless batting order, Ashwin and Jadeja were almost unplayable on the wicket, and the opposition was bowled out for only 91 runs.

Taking the new ball, Ashwin found a lot of spin and quickly collected five wickets, making things seem very challenging indeed. This time he was faster than Jadeja, and it wasn’t because Jadeja seemed less dangerous. They were so dangerous that Axar Patel only took one wicket against Australia in the whole Test.

Also, no team has ever bowled as well as India has under similar circumstances. The depth of their batting lineup was also crucial. While Rohit Sharma scored a wonderful century, Australia was still within striking distance when he was dismissed. Yet, India’s formidable batting lineup in these circumstances and the absence of a fifth bowler ultimately proved decisive. After taking a five-for in the first inning, Jadeja made his recovery even sweeter by scoring fifty in the second. Along with Axar’s assistance, they added 88 runs for the eighth wicket. They effectively batted Australia out of the game in the third inning.
