Ben Stokes and James Anderson give a priceless reaction after Blundell and Kuggeleijn drop a sitter

The first Test of the two-match Test series between the New Zealand cricket team and the England cricket team is currently taking place at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.

England posted a decent total of 325 runs for the loss of nine wickets and then declared the innings. Ben Duckett scored 84 off 68 balls including 14 boundaries whereas Harry Brook aggregated 89 off 81 balls with the help of 15 fours and a six.

On the contrary, Neil Wagner was the pick of the bowlers as he accounted for four dismissals for New Zealand. In reply, the hosts were bundled out for 306 in the first innings. Tom Blundell and Devon Conway played pretty well and led the batting attack by example.

The wicketkeeper-batsman, Blundell chipped in with 138 runs including 19 fours and a six. Conway scored 77 runs including seven fours and a six. Ollie Robinson accounted for four dismissals whereas James Anderson took 3 wickets.

During England’s second innings, Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett got off to a good start as they added 52 runs for the opening wicket before Blair Tickner dismissed Ben Duckett for 25 runs (4 fours).

After that, Scott Kuggeleijn dismissed Zak Crawley for 28 runs (6 fours). Since the second day’s play was almost coming to a close, the team management decided to send Stuart Broad as a night watchman.

He had to survive the intense battle as New Zealand were trying their best to take wickets. During the fifth ball of the 14th over, Stuart Broad tried to hit the ball but ended up getting a top edge as the ball went high up in the air.

Had there been clear communication, it would have been a dismissal in the first place. However, it seems that there was a miscommunication between Blundell and Kuggeleijn as the duo failed to take the catch and missed an easy chance.

Meanwhile, Ben Stokes and James Anderson couldn’t believe what they just saw as they gave a priceless reaction after Stuart Broad was gifted with an extra life. England finished Day 1 with 79/2 and are leading by 98 runs.
