During the second WT20I of India’s tour of Sri Lanka today, Yastika Bhatia showcased quick-thinking and lightning-fast reflexes to run out Anushka Sanjeewani. India chased down SL’s paltry 174-run total within 25 overs, winning easily by 10 wickets.
On the receiving end of a very full ball from Deepti Sharma, Sanjeewani was indecisive about her shot. She first attempted reverse sweep, then changed her mind and poked it away so it traveled a couple of yards down to leg.
But only Bhatia had noticed that the batter had stepped out of her crease, and that her bat was in the air. She hared after the ball, scooped it up and lobbed it directly at the stumps. Not even Sanjeewani had noticed that hadn’t made her ground after playing the stroke. Bhatia went up in appeal, and replays showed that Sanjeewani was indeed out when the blades were dislodged.
