‘We are dreaming big’ – Mehidy Hasan wants Bangladesh beat South Africa in ODI series

All-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz believed that Bangladesh have the potential to beat South Africa in the three-match ODI series. Before the start of the series, the Tigers had lost all nine of their matches in the African nation, but on Friday, March 18, they turned their fortunes round. Tamim Iqbal and Co. defeated the Proteas by 38 runs to take a much-needed 1-0 lead in the series.

After posting 314 for seven on the board, the visitors restricted Temba Bavuma’s men to 276 in 48.5 overs. The second match on Sunday, March 20 at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg is a must-win affair for South Africa to stay alive in the series.

Ahead of the game, Hasan backed his team to register two back-to-back wins and seal the fate of the series. The youngster also talked about Bangladesh winning more and more overseas games and series with time.

“It is not possible to look for progress if you don’t have big dreams and now, we are dreaming big. We want to win more overseas series. We want to win the Asia Cup, the World Cup. We are following these plans and trying to stick to the right process,” Mehidy was quoted as saying.

Bangladesh started the year on a handsome note after beating New Zealand in an overseas Test. Mominul Haque and Co beat the Kiwis by eight wickets at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. It was also their maiden Test victory on New Zealand soil. Ebadot Hossain, who’s a part of the South Africa ODIs, won the Player of the Match award for his six-wicket haul in the second innings.

As far as Mehidy was concerned, he was the pick of the bowlers in the opening ODI. He was put to the swords in his first three overs as the South Africa batters went after him. But he came back to pick four crucial wickets of David Miller, Andile Phehlukwayo, Marco Jansen and Kagiso Rabada.

Shakib Al Hasan won the Player of the Match award after his 64-ball knock of 77, laced with seven fours and three sixes. He couldn’t make a breakthrough in the 10 overs he bowled.
