"We will see more like this in the coming years", Twitter reacts as Dwaine Pretorius retired from International cricket

South African all-rounder Dwayne Pretorius has taken an untimely retirement from international cricket at the age of 33. According to the statement that he gave to the CSA, Pretorius has said that he took the decision to focus on T20s as he wants to become the “best version of himself” in the shortest format of the game. The all-rounder will now become a free agent and only play franchise cricket. This, he says, will help him attain a perfect work-life balance, as he will be able to give time to both his career and his family.

Dwayne Pretorius currently plays for some renowned franchises. He plays for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League, the Welsh Wire in the Hundred, and the Durban Super Giants in the SA20, where he became one of the costliest players in the auction.

Pretorius had gotten zero to no chance in international cricket before 2019, and he was on the verge of giving up his dream to represent his nation. However, a change in regime at CSA during that time and some help from Faf Du Plessis made sure that he got his much-deserved chance.

In T20I, he has played 30 matches for South Africa, picking up 35 wickets at an average economy rate of 8.23. He also scored 261 points in 30 matches, with a high score of 77*. As far as ODIs are concerned, he has played 27 ODIs for South Africa, picking up 35 wickets. In those 27 matches, he managed to score 192 runs.

Talking about Dwayne Pretorius’ retirement, the director of CSA said: “He has always represented the badge with the utmost pride, determination, and commitment, leaving everything on the field every time he pulled on the Proteas shirt.” “His all-round ability added to his value as a player, and his quality will no doubt be missed.”
